Design I:

Robotic Arm Gripper

We created a gripper for our class that holds a 800g water bottle shaped mass from the sides, easily gripping and ungripping the object. The gripper must also hold onto the object while the robot arm swings back and forth.

Since the project had a large emphasis on reducing mass, we began with a gear design that was largely made out of metal. To reduce mass, we then started making designs out of laser-cut acrylic to rapidly prototype different designs. In the end, we had three working designs: one gear design, one string design with 1/4" acrylic, and one string design with 1/8" acrylic.
